Rain rain and more rain

It seems to have rained ever since I left St. Ives (well, on the last day when I was leaving it started - how lucky was I) and so I'm going to cheer myself up with a few more pictures.  The last, I promise.

This photo is taken from inside 'The Sloop'
where I sat with a cider and bowl of soup....

Memories

Of course visiting the Leach Pottery made me think of mum, and how at home she would have felt in those clay-encrusted rooms.   The tools made me think of her pottery with bunches of tools stuck in vases and pots like flowers - here are some of Bernard's bits and pieces:

I thought this little chap was rather cute and he begged to be added in -
Oh well, time to stop dreaming I suppose....

I'll leave you with dreams of creating lovely things out of messy splodgy clay, just like when you were a kid....

Scribbling at St. Ives

There's always somewhere in St. Ives where you can sit and have a cappucino and enjoy the view...

Sometimes there are interesting people to look at.   This lady looked quite forbidding at first, though mellowed soon, and I liked her hair the colour of clotted cream, and the long turquoise fingernails and matching beads on her bracelets.

Just a few random scribbles....

Happiness is......

St Ives of course!
Leach Pottery was up a steep hill, but well worth it.  Bought a nice little brown mug that will be just the perfect size for cold dry cider.....

There was a Barbara Hepworth just below and to the left of the B&B I stayed at.

Happiness is also - my shadow on the sand.....
footprints of one man and his dog....
Barbara Hepworth's tools waiting for her return....

Sauce boat

Suddenly realized I hadn't put my finished sauceboat on the blog (at least I don't think I did) - gave it to my son in October last year for his birthday present.

cafe doodles - The Girl with Mad Hair

Went into Throwing Buns cafe the other day and did a few instant doodles of people in there - not exactly brilliant, but a lot of fun. The first two were deep in conversation (how I longed to be able to overhear!) and the other one had curly candy floss hair, wearing a very old bobbled jumper, and was with a man who had a delightful Irish brogue. They sat at a table made from the base of an old Singer sewing machine, her feet working the treadle and the wheel whirring quietly like a purring cat.

Spring again hooray

Went to Harcourt Arboretum, but had left it a bit late in the day and they were shortly to close, as the Peacock On Guard made quite clear....
So I took a photo of the first bluebell I could see, and left. If I go back in about two weeks' time it will be a blaze of Cadbury's wrapper blue (unpoetic, but honest). Actually the peacock's waistcoat is pretty much the same colour too. I think I can feel a bar of chocolate coming on...
